Wellness Check for Pets

As your pets start to age, it’s important to keep an even closer eye on them and their health to ensure their continued well being and comfort. Did you know that 1 in 5 senior animals could have an underlying problem that is not detectable without testing?

ABOUT WELLNESS CHECKS

This is why we’re providing wellness checks for cats and dogs with the help from IDEXX’s testing capabilities. Their laboratory specialists are able to provide blood, urine and faeces checks for your furry friends. 

How Does a Pet Wellness Check work?

When you visit our veterinary practice in Kensington, we will take a blood, urine and a faecal sample from your cat or dog, which will then be sent off to IDEXX for them to test. 

The results of the tests will be received within 3-4 days and the wellness checks will look at your pet’s: 

  • Liver 
  • Kidneys
  • Glucose levels including a check for diabetes
  • Thyroid function
  • Red blood cell levels including an anaemia check
  • White blood cell levels including an immune system check
  • Electrolyte levels
  • Urine composition
  • Faeces for the presence of any parasites

Our pet wellness checks are open to all healthy cats and dogs, but they are especially beneficial for older pets – cats over 10 years old and dogs older than 8 years old. 

Pets age faster than people, so the comprehensive check and testing from IDEXX provides peace of mind to owners that their beloved pet’s organs are healthy. It also gives us an opportunity to identify potential problems early on, which can improve your dog or cat’s prognosis and mean that treatment can start as early as possible.

With yearly pet wellness checks, we can create a baseline of normal readings for your pet and then compare year on year results which helps with a deeper understanding of your furry friend’s health. This also allows us to detect changes in results more easily.
