Animal Health Certificates

Pet owners need an Animal Health Certificate for their cat or dog to travel from England, Scotland or Wales to an EU country, Switzerland or Northern Ireland. It is a single-entry bilingual document, which allows you to travel within the EU for 4 months, with return to the UK within the same period.

ABOUT PET TRAVEL

Who can issue an Animal Health Certificate?

Both our veterinarians are Official Veterinarians (OVs), which means that they are authorised by the government to carry out procedures related to pet travel and Animal Health Certificates. Any vet that is not an Official Veterinarian will not be able to issue your Animal Health Certificate.

When issuing your certificate, we need to know the first country that you wish to travel to so that it can be stipulated on the document and then issued in the correct language. If you have any questions or would like to discuss the process in more detail, please get in touch.

Johnny has a wealth of experience in dealing with travel procedures and requirements, which can often be confusing for owners.

When to get an Animal Health Certificate

You can get an Animal Health Certificate within the 10 days before you plan to travel, providing that your pet is microchipped and has a valid rabies vaccination with documentation (vaccination certificate) confirming this. The supporting documentation is not necessary if we have administered the rabies vaccine at our practice.

If your pet requires vaccinating against rabies, you need to wait 21 days after the vaccination date before you can get an Animal Health Certificate for travel.

It is also possible for us to issue an animal health certificate within 48 hours; however, in these cases an increased fee will be payable.

Animal Health Certificate cost

Our current cost for getting an Animal Health Certificate issued is £189. If you need to make an appointment before your holiday abroad, book online now.
